Wrong Number
Two young men on holiday in South America got chatting to a man in a bar who
gave them the telephone number of his friend, telling them to call should they
want to buy any cocaine. Later on in the week, the pair decided to call the dealer,
although the man's writing was difficult to decipher and the number was not very
clear. The person on the other end of the telephone told them that they had the
wrong number and hung up. The two men, thinking they had perhaps misunderstood
as neither spoke the local language very well, called back and repeated their
request to buy cocaine. Unfortunately, the number they were ringing was the mobile
telephone number of a police officer who, in the second conversation, pretended
to be the drug dealer and arranged a meeting. When the men turned up at the appointed
time they were promptly arrested.
