A police patrol officer gave chase to a car which had the top half of a lamp post laid across the front bonnet. When he caught up with the driver, who was very drunk, he asked where the lamp post had come from. The driver very patiently explained to the officer that it had come with the car. He stuck to this story even when the policeman took him in for further questioning!
