Shooting Yourself In The Foot

A man in South Africa enlisted the help of his friend to run an insurance scam. He was heavily insured, and would be due a large payout should he be seriously injured. The deal was that they would split the money between them. Wanting an injury serious enough to merit a payout, but not life-threatening, the man asked his friend to shoot him in the shoulder. Unfortunately, his friend was a chronically bad shot and instead shot him in the chest. The accomplice, panicked and guilt-ridden because he believed the man was dying, confessed their plan to the ambulance men who came to their assistance. The man survived, but both were arrested for conspiracy to defraud.
