Man jailed for posing as vicar
Thursday, August 30, 2001
A registered sex offender who posed as a vicar and visited clubs offering to perform wedding ceremonies has been jailed for four months.
Trevor Norkett was banned from wearing vicar's clothing after being convicted of offences against a boy in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
He had previously posed as an ordained minister and visited two clubs in Norwich, a pub and a nightclub in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where he was known as "Trev the Rev".
Norkett, 39, formerly of Stracey Road, Norwich, appeared for sentence today having admitted a charge of wearing vicar's clothing whilst prohibited to do so.
Sentencing him, District Judge Patrick Heley said he had disobeyed an order made in September last year following his conviction and sentence to two years' jail for indecent assault on a nine-year-old boy.
He said he had then been placed on the sex offenders' register.
Mr Heley said: "You saw the use of wearing clerical clothing as a way in which you could make contact with young boys.
"I made the order because I was satisfied if you went around doing that there was a risk of further offending.
"You have twice disobeyed the order by pretending to be a priest."
