Lazy thief arrested in hammock
Wednesday, August 29, 2001
A Thai extortionist has been arrested after falling asleep in a hammock as he waited for his victim to earn enough money to hand over.
The thief and two accomplices first broke into the shop and then went back to demand money from the owner in return for a gas bottle they had stolen.
She had no cash because the shop in Chumphon province had not opened, so they offered to stay until she had earned it, bedding down in hammocks in the meantime.
While they slept, the owner, Kulaya Phatchareon, called the police who arrested the ringleader Weerapong Sukchareon. Two others, Mr Lek and Mr Chat, escaped, reports the Thai Daily News.
Weerapong said he and his friends went out stealing gas tanks every night but they were bad businessmen and unable to get a good price for the tanks on the black market.
He added that if people didn't take care of their property then it was only fair he should steal it.
