Tartan Army told 'don't bear your backsides at Belgians'
Tuesday, August 28, 2001
Members of the Tartan Army have been warned not to bare their backsides at the Belgians during a crucial soccer match.
The Scottish Football Association has told fans that the tradition has no place at next week's World Cup qualifying game in Brussels.
Male and female fans often hitch up their kilts to reveal their tartan underwear - or less, when the Tartan Army travel abroad. The Scots have won footballing awards for the good-natured spirit of their fans.
The SFA, however, wants fans to dress respectfully and not dress as 'true Scotsmen' - no underwear - if wearing kilts, reports the Daily Record.
The SFA has also asked fans not to wear face-paint, ginger wigs or masks. Ten thousand Scotland fans are expected in Belgium for the game next Wednesday.
Belgian police will operate a 'Zero Tolerance' policy with fans who cause trouble.
