Widow marries late husband's twin
Thursday, August 23, 2001
A widow has found love a second time around with her late husband's twin brother.

Janet Dix has married Michael Dix six years following the death of her first husband Arthur.

Mr Dix comforted his sister-in-law after Arthur died just as she had done when his wife Margaret died six years ago.

The former school caretaker, 64, of Matson, Gloucester, was left devastated when his wife suffered a heart attack aged 55. The father-of-three started visiting his twin and care nurse Mrs Dix, 46, regularly.

When Arthur died of a heart attack at the age of 61 in September 1998, it was his turn to comfort her.

Mrs Dix said: "Michael found comfort in coming up to see Arthur after Margaret died. Arthur used to joke to Michael that he was leaving me to him in his will.

"Two years before he died, he asked Michael to look after me if anything happened to him. Arthur and Michael were not identical twins but they looked more and more alike the older they got.

"They say better the devil you know but I did not expect to find happiness again. We have both been through our losses together - that's why we get on so well."

Mr Dix, who was married to Margaret for 36 years, added: "We have known each other for 26 years and there was no inkling of a relationship until recently."

The pair moved in together in November 1999 and married at Gloucester Register Office. Both plan to be buried alongside their respective first loves at Coney Hill cemetery, Gloucester.
