Young mum streaked 'to feel alive'
Wednesday, August 22, 2001
A young Australian mother says she streaked in front of 20,000 rugby fans wearing just a pair of sunglasses and a pair of big foam hands to "feel alive again".
Catherine Marie Maher, 28, has been sentenced to 40 hours' community service after pleading guilty at Brisbane magistrates to disorderly conduct and willful exposure.
She ran the full length of the pitch at rugby league side Brisbane Broncos' ground on August 5. They were playing against the Sydney Roosters.
After her run, she danced under the goal posts before police and security guards escorted her away. Outside court, Maher said she left her children with a babysitter expecting to be arrested.
She has sent a letter of apology to the National Rugby League.
She said she was just a mother who wanted to feel alive again, although her husband disapproved of her streak.
Maher said: "I have a list of things I want to do in life and that was one of them."
For her next stunt, Maher intends to stand on the wings of a Tiger Moth while it is in the air, The Australian reports.
