Prisoner escapes through police station ceiling
Thursday, November 15, 2001
A prisoner has escaped from a police station in Sunderland after removing the ceiling tiles.
The man went missing during an unsupervised visit from a friend at Gill Bridge Avenue police station's secure unit.
A Northumbria Police spokesman says they're in contact with the station's architects.
He told the Daily Telegraph: "We are confident of finding him."
The 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with an attack on a Salvation Army fundraiser.
