Pumpkin Liberation Army steal pumpkins to make soup
Monday, October 29, 2001
Members of the Belgian Pumpkin Liberation Army have stolen 53 Halloween pumpkins to turn into soup for poor people.
The decorative pumpkins were taken from the gardens of houses in Leuven.
The activists sent a letter to a Belgian press agency saying they will continue taking action against the "improper use of pumpkins" as long as there are poor regions in the world.
They also told Belga they don't like the commercial use of pumpkins in Halloween festivities.
They said they had sent the pumpkins to the organisation Food not Bombs, who will make soup from them to feed the poor.
Members of the Liberation Army left stickers behind for the people whose pumpkins they'd stolen, saying they would be sent to people who will use them properly.
Belga reports it's the first time the Pumpkin Liberation Army has struck and they want to start a worldwide web of organisations fighting against the improper use of pumpkins.
