Man demands lager and cigarettes as ransom

A man who took his girlfriend hostage down-graded his ransom demands from £10,000 and a car to a crate of lager and two packs of cigarettes.

The 23-year-old threatened to kill his 26-year-old girlfriend after taking her hostage at knife-point in Germany.

The siege in Chemnitz ended peacefully after a police psychologist intervened and he was overpowered by officers when he went to the front door to collect his beer.
