Thursday, October 18, 2001
A Nigerian has been jailed after claiming he was sleepwalking when he tried to snatch a gun from a prison guard.
Rabilu Musa attempted to grab the rifle from a guard at a prison gate in Katsina.
He claimed he was sleepwalking at the time and didn't even know about the incident until two days later.
Judge Abdurrahman Aliyu said there was no evidence from relatives or doctors to back up his claims.
Musa was convicted of trespassing and attempt to commit a criminal offence, reports the Daily Trust newspaper.
He was sentenced to six months.
