Drunken elk causes traffic chaos
Monday, September 17, 2001
A drunken elk staggering across a main road caused traffic chaos in Sweden.
The young elk had eaten too many fermented apples and was almost too drunk to walk. It caused snarl ups on the road between Gothenburg and Hallingsjo.
It then collapsed into a stream and had to be rescued by police. They ushered it into a nearby forest where it sobered up.
A local wildlife authority said the calf was most likely a twin and that's why the mother did not respond to its distress calls.
A police spokesman told Swedish newspaper, Goteborgs Post: "It was incredibly cute!"
